General Introduction
Founded on 3 July 1992, Kırıkkale University, as per the law of its establishment, initially included the faculties of Science and Letters, Economics and Administrative Sciences, Engineering and Veterinary Medicine as well as the the Institute of Social Sciences, the Institute of Natural and Applied Sciences and the Institute of Medical Sciences. In addition to these, the law of establishment also included Kırıkkale Vocational School, taken over from Ankara university, which was the only operating unit of the university at the time of its foundation. In the academic year of 1993 – 1994, following its foundation, Kırıkkale University started education with 6 departments in 3 faculties, 10 programmes in 1 vocational school as well as 8 departments in 2 institutes.
Another vocational school offering 3 programmes was opened in Keskin for the 1994 – 1995 academic year. The faculties of Medicine, Law and Education were founded on 3 January 1995. School of Physical Education and Sports was founded in 1998. Of these new additions, the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Education started education in the academic year of 1997 – 1998, whereas the Faculty of Medicine opened its door to the students in the 1998 – 1999 academic year. School of Physical Education and Sports became operational in the academic year of 1999 – 2000. Süleyman Demirel Research and Application Hospital, operating under the Faculty of Medicine, started providing services in 2001. In addition to these, foundation of Faculty of Dentistry was approved by the Council of Ministers on 24 June 2002. The faculty now offers polyclinic services to patients. The Faculty of Fine Arts was founded on 06 June 2005.
The Faculty of Medical Sciences was founded as per the article issue no. 27338 by the Ministry of Education dated 26.11.2008 and as per the additional clause no. 30 of the law no. 2809 (dated 28.03.1983). After the relevant decision by the Council of Ministers, its foundation was published on the Official Gazette on 19.12.2008. With the addition of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, the number of faculties within our university went up to 10 in total. As of today, our university continues its educational activities under 10 Faculties, 1 School, 5 Vocational Schools and 3 Institutes.
Kırıkkale, thanks to its close proximity and the ease of transportation to Ankara, is considered to be some kind of suburb of the capital. As such, Kırıkkale University is located well away from the problems of a big city, but offers easy access to scientific, cultural and social opportunities. Therefore, the university keeps improving at a great pace. Kırıkkale University is also one of the best universities in Turkey in terms of the relatively low number of students per instructor.
